Stemless carline thistle

Description: Herbaceous perennial plant with thick axial roots from which arise pinnated spiny leaves in a rosette, with a flowerhead of up to 10 cm. Reddish flowers.

Distribution in Kosovo: Broadly distributed in mountain and subalpine pastures.

Parts used:  Root (Carlina radix)

Harvest time: Roots must be harvested in autumn or early spring.

Drying:  is done in the oven at temperatures of up to 600C  or in places that have good air circulation. Ratio: 4: 1.

Therapeutic Category: Antirheumatic, antibiotic, bronchitis.

Use:  The roots are traditionally used to treat rheumatism and prostate diseases.

Preparation and dosage: Well dried roots are chopped and prepared as tea, to be used for 7-10 days.
