Juniper

Description: Shrub plant 2-5 m height with needle-shaped leaves with length 10-15 mm and 2mm wide, straight poignant dense. It is dioecious plant, where female flowers are in a plant whereas male flowers on the other plant. Prickly juniper (Juniperus oxycedrus) differs from the first because its fruits are red and divided in three parts.

Distribution in Kosovo: It grows anywhere from low to high lands.

Parts used:  Fruit (Junipri fructus).

Harvest time: after fully ripen fruits (IX-X)

Drying: It should be done in oven in temperature up to 55 0C.  Ratio: 4:1.

Therapeutic category: Diuretic, antiseptic, anti-rheumatic.

Use: Contains etheric oils used in curing urinary tract as antiseptic, improving blood circulation, etc.

Preparation and dosage: The infusion should be prepared from 0.5 g of crushed fruits in 150 ml of water and drink while fresh.
